Friday, April 8, 2011 Girls Day Out....Turtle Hospital and Lunch at Burdine's.

Nancy, Candy, Katie and myself toured the Turtle Hospital.
They rescue and rehabilitate injured and sick Turtles.

The Turtle Hospital is right on the Gulf of Mexico in Marathon, FL.
There is a great view here.

This turtle lost it's front flipper from being caught in the line on a crab trap.
However, he should be able to be released back to the Ocean after a few months.

Some of the turtles are brought in with digestive problems that
cause them to float....so the hospital gives them fiber and and beano
and sometimes have to remove ingested objects.
Then they watch them for several months to make sure they are strong and healthy
enough to release back to the wild.

Sometimes, they have to weight the turtle shell  to help
them be able to dive down under water to eat.

This turtle has a deformed shell and it floats too much
to be able to release, so he is a permanent resident at the Turtle Hospital.
